Nogeyama Park is located up on a hill that looks out over Yokohama city, and it is also the home of Nogeyama Zoo. Opened in 1951, the zoo is home to around 1,800 animals across around 80 types, including giraffes, lions, and lesser pandas (also known as red pandas). A great perk of this zoo is that, despite being in the heart of Yokohama, admission is free! One of its more popular areas is “Nakayoshi Hiroba,” where you can interact with small animals like guinea pigs and mice. During the spring many people visit the zoo for cherry blossom viewing.

Highlights

  • It's located on a hill overlooking the city of Yokohama.
  • During “Animal Feeding Time,” guests can watch the animals eat and learn about them and their diets from the keepers. Please see official web page for times.
  • Reservations are required for the “Nakayoshi Hiroba“. For more information, please check the website.

  • The biggest draw here is definitely that admission is free! You can see quite a few animals, and the environment is really clean. There's also a rest area if you need a break. You can finish your visit in about 2–3 hours, so it's perfect for a morning trip if you arrive early.

It's really convenient to get to in Yokohama, and the best part is that it's free!

Nogeyama Zoo is right in Yokohama, so it's easy to get to, and admission is free. Took my kids and they had a blast. You can see animals like giraffes up close. The best part was getting to hold cute animals like guinea pigs and little hens.

  • Admission is free! If you want to get close to animals, this is the place to be~!
