Kyoto Music Box Museum Saga

Music Box Timbres Resonating with Japanese Culture.

Last update :

The Arashiyama Saga area is an iconic Kyoto sightseeing location where you can enjoy the beauty of every season, such as cherry blossoms in spring or changing leaves in fall, and take in the history and culture of this ancient city. A 1-minute walk away from Arashiyama Station of the Keifuku Arashiyama Electric Railroad in the Saga area is the location of Kyoto Music Box Museum Saga.

A cute maiko (apprentice geisha) object greets visitors at the entrance, making a great social media worthy photo op! Inside you’ll find a huge variety of music boxes, from cute palm-sized ones to larger ones that look like parts of an interior design. The designs cover a huge range of themes, including one featuring a rabbit-doll dressed in a spectacular Yuzen silk crepe kimono, and a 3D crystal light-up music box that shows off patterns of Kyoto’s sightseeing spots within its ball. There is also a maiko music box that’s exclusive to the Kyoto location. There is even an experience corner for handmaking music boxes in Japanese-style working environment, where you can sit on zabutons (Japanese cushion) and experience music box production at a low dining table.
