Oshi Castle Ruin
Castle town, Gyoda’s landmark, the impenetrable castle.
Oshi Castle is in Gyoda City in Saitama Prefecture. In the late 15th century, the Lord Narita who ruled this area is said to have built it by rivers and a marsh. Despite the repeated attacks, this solid castle never fell.
Most famous episode was in the late provincial war period, when Hideyoshi Toyotomi, aspiring to rule the entire Japan, tried to flood the castle unsuccessfully. The story of “Floating Castle” was adopted into a number of novels and movies.
The original building is not left, but you can see the earthen foundation for the main castle, wedged stones used for the tower’s stone wall, Korai Gate and other ruins. “The Three-storied Tower” built in the Edo Period is now rebuilt and you can see the exhibit inside. From the observation room on the highest floor, you can view the entire Gyoda City.
Another attraction is Oshi Castle Omotenashi Kacchutai (Oshi Castle hospitality armer team). The spirited members in the armer welcome visitors with a dance performance. They will be happy to be in photos with you. When you see them, just ask them.
