Saika Festival (Asaka Citizen Festival)
Saika Festival, a vigorous event representing the summer of Asaka City.
The "Saika Festival" is a summer festival that is indispensable when talking about Asaka. It was started by citizens who felt threatened by the diminishing sense of community attachment, solidarity, and human connection. The festival is held for three days every year in early August.
The two main venues are the "Asaka venue" and the "Kita Asaka venue." You can enjoy various attractions within the Saika Festival, such as the Commerce and Industry Festival and Japanese drum performances. The highlight of the festival is the "Kanhasshu Yosaikoi Festa."It was the first Naruko dance festival in Honshu since 1994, following the "Yosakoi Festival" in Kochi and the "YOSAKOI Soran Festival" in Hokkaido. About 6,000 dancers will perform with original music while clapping the Naruko in their hands (wooden hand clappers). The excitement of the audience is at its peak by the performance full of power and enthusiasm.
Another popular event is the fireworks on the second day. About 9,000 fireworks are shot off in an hour, making it the largest fireworks display ever seen in a city. The powerful and breathtaking sight of countless lights and sounds spreading across the night sky will indeed become a memorable part of your trip.
