Watching all the fish swimming freely in the big aquarium was so soothing. It really lifted my mood.

Fuji Spring Water Aquarium
A fresh-water fish aquarium using the clear spring waters from Mt. Fuji.
The Fuji Spring Water Aquarium, located on the grounds of Sakana Park, specializes in fresh-water fish. Here you’ll find a large variety of fresh-water fish, mostly caught in the lakes and marshes around Yamanashi Prefecture.
The center aquarium inside features a double-layered tank, which allows two tanks of both large and small fish to appear against each other at the same time.
The aquarium is also home to a large-scale glass window that shows the lake just outside, with views into a world of 1-m long sturgeon and some 20 other varieties of 300 fish as they swim by. On the opposite side of the lake sits a backdrop of forest trees, making it look as if you’re swimming through an underwater world inside a forest.
In early summer, schools of 8,000+ ayu (Japanese Sweetfish) are another must-see.
