Located at the western foot of Mt. Fuji, the lake has a circumference of 12.6 km, an area of 4.7 square km, and a depth of 122 meters. Among the Fuji Five Lakes, it has a particularly large amount of untouched nature. The quality of the water is excellent, and it boasts "the highest transparency in the Honshu region".

The northern shore of the lake offers a good view of Fuji, and the "upside-down Fuji" that beautifully appears on the wave-free surface of the water is well-known to be depicted on the back of the 1,000 yen bill. From Ryugatake Hill, which you can climb from the lakeside, you can see the "Diamond Fuji" sunrise appearing from the top of Mt. Fuji on New Year's Day.

The lake is popular among tourists who enjoy canoeing, SUP, fishing, windsurfing, and other activities in the beautiful nature.

If you take a ride on the submarine-type sightseeing boat "Moguran," you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Mt. Fuji from the deck, and observe beautiful fish such as carp, damselfish, and rainbow trout living in the lake from the boat's bottom window.
