Located in Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, this scenic spot boasts one of the most beautiful valleys in Japan. Many tourists come here to see the rhododendrons in early summer, the fresh greenery, and the autumn leaves. The Nishizawa Valley has been certified as a Forest Therapy® base for its proven relaxing effects, and many people come here for "forest bathing".

The canyon, formed by the erosion of huge granite rocks by clear streams, is famous for its beautiful waterfalls of various sizes, including the Nanatsugama Five-tiered Waterfall, one of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan.
※Note, rainy weather may cause the soil to erode, making it difficult to see the Nanatsugama Five-tiered Waterfall up close (May, 2022).

There are many places to visit around Nishizawa Valley. “Michi no eki Mitomi / Roadside station Mitomi” has souvenir shops selling local products and a cafeteria serving original dishes made with Yamanashi ingredients. There is also a day trip hot spring near the bus stop, so be sure to stop by there when you visit.
