Making up for 90% of production in Japan, Gunma Prefecture is one of the most famous producers of konnyaku. It’s also home to a konnyaku specialty park, a veritable “mecca” for konnyaku lovers.

Inside the themepark you’ll find a factory where you can see three different spots, the “ita” (board-style) konnyaku production line, the “shirataki” (noodle-style) konnyaku production line and the “dessert” production line. Your tour starts with a video and introduction of the many intricate machine parts that require an extra-close eye to understand, as well as an all-encompassing overview at the end to make you a full-fledged master of konnyaku! For an even deeper dive you can try your hand at an interactive workshop. Be sure to reserve before 1:00pm the day before to secure a slot for 2 or more.

Other popular attractions include the free konnyaku cooking, sweets buffet, the “Foods Market” with plenty of fresh Gunma produce, or even the 500-yen as-much-as-you-can-cram konnyaku corner.

In the park you’ll even find an “ashiyu” (foot bath) area to kick back and rest your feet over a nice warm soak. (Only open on weekends as of July 2021).
