Tsushima Shrine
The head of Tenno Shrine which had many faithful samurai worshippers.
The head of over 3000 Tenno Shrines nationwide which enshrines Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto.
Stop by to see this region’s unique architecture style Owari Zukuri. The main hall, worship hall with the prayer hall at the center are connected by the hallway, all in one line and symmetry.
Perhaps because Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto was a courageous god, he was revered by warlords such as Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
There are historical spots to see - The tower gate gifted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1591, the partition wall built to ward off evil spirits, and the south gate donated by Toyotomi Hideyori in his wish for his father’s recovery.
Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival is held each year on the 4th Saturday and the following day in July. The night before the Festival, there is a 600-year-old tradition of boating event with many lanterns, which is fascinating to watch. It is designated as the nation's intangible folklore cultural asset and UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
