“Appare” is the sightseeing boat where you can take 20-minute cruises around Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. Set sail from Appare pier on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko and cruise under Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge to swing by Unoshima, the only island in the Fuji Five lakes, before making a U-turn back home. Prepare to gaze upon Mt. Fuji like you’ve never seen her before.
With a full-on Japanese exterior design, this tour boat is designed after an Atakebune warship used by warlord Takeda Shingen’s fleet in the warring states period. It’s especially popular for its flashy exterior, which incorporates designs from the “Akazonae” military unit and 4-diamond Takeda family crest. The boat interior even features a Japanese styled design with unpainted wood that’s reminiscent of tatami. There’s even a military “gunbai” fan and “haori” jacket to rent if you’re in the mood to snap a photo while looking like a Japanese seafarer.
Many love this boat for the chance to gaze at Mt. Fuji as it looms over the beautiful lake shore, all while cruising around the 2nd largest lake in the Fuji Five lakes. The view of Mt. Fuji from the lake is unlike any other you’ll ever see. Many people jump at the chance to snap a photo of Mt. Fuji as it reflects in mirrored image across the lake beneath, but you’ll need to keep your fingers crossed for clear weather. On rainy days the boat may not operate, but there is also a covered space at the 1st floor rear area. There you’ll find a large-scale monitor serving up gorgeous shots of Mt. Fuji across all four seasons as well as a few tips on local history and nearby spots to check out after.
The covered area inside the boat is built with barrier free access so passengers with wheelchairs, baby strollers, etc. can ride with ease.
