Sakana Park
A theme park based on the rich water and forest of Oshino Village.
“Oshino Village Sakana Park'' is a water and forest-themed park where visitors of all ages can enjoy Oshino’s abundant nature. In the lush green park, there are rivers and ponds with underground water from Mt. Fuji, as well as the “Jabujabu Pond,” where visitors can play in the water, a long slide, and athletic equipment that visitors can enjoy in nature.
The “Oshino Village Forest Learning Center” (free admission) introduces Oshino Village’s abundant natural life from a variety of perspectives. Through the five senses, visitors can learn about common medicinal plants and nuts, how to make objects using natural materials, and how to play in nature. It also explains the wild animals and insects of Oshino Village, Mt. Fuji’s volcanic activities, and Oshino Village’s festivals in an easy-to-understand way. From spring to autumn, flowers and plants collected in Oshino Village are displayed, and in winter, visitors can enjoy the sound of cracking firewood and flames in the fireplace.
The “Yamanashi Prefecture Fuji Spring Water Village Aquarium” (admission 420 yen for adults and 200 yen for elementary and middle school students) in the park is a freshwater fish aquarium. There are approximately 3,000 freshwater fish in the spring water from Mt. Fuji, such as the rare fish Itou (said to be a member of the salmon family and one of the largest freshwater fish in Japan) and large rainbow trout. It has creative ways of displaying fish, such as the side-viewing tank that makes visitors feel like they are diving into a forest pond, and the flowing water tank that recreates the habitat of river fish, allowing visitors to observe the ecology of the fish. Also, special exhibitions and feeding experiences are held on an irregular basis.
It is the place where visitors can fully enjoy the whole day playing and learning in nature.
