The Mt. Fuji Panorama Ropeway is used by many tourists as a way to climb up to Mt. Tenjyoyama from Lake Kawaguchi. From inside the gondola, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Kawaguchi below. Tenjyoyama is a famous spot where you can see the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi from the front, and the observatory, which was renovated in July 2017, is twice as wide as before. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and its skirts, as well as popular spots such as the Tenjo Bell, Usagi Jinja (Rabbit Shrine), and Throw the “Kawara”, where you can enjoy sightseeing to the fullest.
Tenjyoyama is said to be the setting for the Japanese old tale "Kachikachiyama", and there are facilities such as the “Usagi Jinja (Rabbit Shrine)” and the “Tanuki Jaya” Tea Shop in honor of the story. It is also a place associated with the great writer Osamu Dazai. Dazai spent some time at the Tenkachaya Tea House in Misaka Pass, Fujikawaguchiko Town, and based on his experiences, he wrote new interpretations of "Kachikachiyama" and "Fugaku Hyakkei". There is a monument to him in Nakabataira, halfway up Mt. Tenjyoyama.
There is beauty in every season, but the beautiful golden colors seen from the ropeway during the autumn are a must-see. It is also said that winter is the best time to enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji because of the low precipitation and clear air.
Although it is possible to take the ropeway there and back, many people choose to walk one way. There is also a promenade course, so hiking is also recommended. It is also the trailhead for the famous Mt.Mitsutoge, one of the 100 most famous mountains in Yamanashi, and the trail is well maintained.
