Chalet Mizugahama
A gorgeous café greeted by the shores of Lake Biwa and nearby waterbirds.
Make your way from Biwako Ohashi Bridge up the coast of Lake Biwa to Hikone City, you’ll find a little log house that’s hugged by flowers. Here you’ll find Chalet Mizugahama, a popular stop for those driving by that has recently garnered extra buzz for its breathtaking lakeside views at the café. The view from the terrace is truly remarkable, with the waters of Lake Biwa stretched before your feet as if you’re sitting on top of it. Whether its cherryblossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer or the bright shimmer of autumn leaves, there’s plenty of gorgeous views to enjoy all year around.
For lunch you’ll find dishes like beef curry, pilaf, and wild vegetable spaghetti, while café time features an array of unassuming but deliciously handmade sweets like chiffon cake, cheesecake, chocolate, pound cake and more. Each dish is packed with local, seasonal ingredients from that reason that are sure to delight your tastebuds.
The staircase just off to the side offers access to the beach, where you can play with the ducks and geese nearby. There is specific bird feed available for purchase so it doubles as a fun way to pass the time if you’re waiting for a seat.
For an especially good view we recommend swinging just in time to catch the evening sunset. Prepare yourself for a time away at the terrace in easy-going bliss.
