Hamamatsu Gyoza are a wallet-friendly, delicious bite known across Japan. Ishimatsu Gyoza, a veteran shop found in front of Hamamatsu Station, has been serving up the same unbeatable flavor since it opened in 1953.
It starts with cabbage, painstakingly sourced from different regions each season. It’s also packed with domestically raised pork loin, a sweeter cut that brings out the best in ultimate flavor. The dumpling wrapper is especially known for its thin but chewy texture. It’s then finished with a delectable, lightly sweet soy dipping sauce made special for Ishimatsu Gyoza. With wrapping, filling and dipping sauce, this 3-point punch makes for a perfect bite.
One point that sets Hamamatsu Gyoza apart is the bean sprouts set inside the dumpling wheel, which originated at Ishimatsu. Knowing that you eat with your eyes, the spot trialed a number of ideas until it came upon bean sprouts. They go great with the Ishimatsu special dipping sauce and make for an authentic flavor you can only get here.
The gyoza are made with a house-special flavor that after many iterations simply can’t be recreated, which is concentrated into each delicious dumpling. Each dumpling is packed with meaty pork and the slight sweetness of cabbage and the house-special flavor that makes you want to come back and again.
The shop was expanded and reopened in April 2020. Inside you’ll find spacious group seating and even park space for large buses so your visit is even easier.
