Last update :

In the empty store space on Ajino Shopping Street, which used to be the most popular in Kojima, more than 40 jean shops, cafes and galleries opened. Roughly 400m Shopping area stretches from the Nozaki Family’s historic residence (the former hub of salt production business) down to Kurashiki City Kojima Shimin Koryu Center (Kojima Community Center), divided into the north and south areas.

Unique shops with different specialties cluster here - denim with special treatment, jeans made by a textile company more than 20 years old, shirts that go well with jeans, denim dresses, denim goods, etc.

Kojima District has been known as a “Fiber Town” since the Meiji Period. Jean production began in this district in the 1960s. This area is known as the birthplace of domestic jeans. From dyeing and weaving to sewing and treating the fabric, Kojima’s craftsmen use their original skills.
