Meiso no Sato (Meditation Resort)
Relax your body and soul in the soothing space known as a spiritual place.
This mysterious village, known as ”the Village in the Sky,” sits at the top of Toga Village Uebatake. Huge Mandala and Buddha paintings created by a Nepalese monk such as a dynamic painting of a garden “Flower Mandala” at the center are hung in the Meditation Hall, a display room and an inn. Yoga and meditation events are held for visitors to refresh their bodies and souls.
The Meditation Hall was built in 1991 as a symbol of friendship between Toga Village and Tukuche Village, Nepal, when a monk, Shashi Dhorj Tulachan from Tukuche was invited and created the huge 4m x 4m Mandala and Buddhism paintings in a year and a half, two of which depict 49 scenes which are said to appear in human hearts between death and rebirth.
The Eleven-faced Thousand-handed Thousand-Eyed Kannon Painting depicts Amida Nyorai and Kannon. Tibetan Buddha statues, carvings from India, costumes and masks for Buddhist dance, etc. are also on display. The exhibition room, Meditation Beauty Hall, completed in 1995, displays Tibetan and Japanese Mandalas in comparison, as well as the restored Mandalas painted in the 15th century such as Diamond Realm Mandala and Womb Realm Mandala.
