Ureshino Hot Springs

Hizen Fudoki, the oldest chronicle of the land of Hizen, describes the town as having "a hot spring in the eastern part of the city, which heals people from illnesses. During the Edo period, Ureshino was a busy Inn-filled town along the Nagasaki Kaido. In its current state, the hot spring is one of the three “Best Hot Springs for a Beautiful Skin” alongside Hinokami Hot Springs in Shimane prefecture, and Kitsuregawa Hot Springs in Tochigi prefecture. The source spring is filled with sodium good for the skin. Its slippery texture washes out dirt, secretion and is good for oily skin. Visitors say the spring creates a smooth, almost slippery skin.

The “Siebold Bath” is a public bathhouse that is the symbol of Ureshino Hot Springs. It attracted a large crowd during the Edo period, and was visited by the famous German doctor, Philip Franz von Siebold. The exterior is also interesting, with a gothic, Western finish reminiscent of the Taisho romanticism. Buy the “Yuyu Ureshino Ticket” (1500 yen), which is a 12 ticket bundle which can be used in 16 bathhouses in the venue.

Ureshino Hot Springs can also be expected to invigorate the functions of the stomach, liver, and other organs if drunk. Visitors can cleanse their body both inside and out, by drinking the hot spring water and taste gourmet foods such as “Ureshino Hot Springs Yudofu” (boiled tofu) , which is made from hot spring water and has a tender texture.
