Otaru’s symbol, Mt.Tengu, stands 532m-high above sea level. On top, there is an observation platform awarded one star on Michelin Green Guide Japon, where you can look out at the city and the Japan Sea. At night, Mt Tengu offers a breath-taking sight over Otaru City, referred to as one of Hokkaido’s Three Best Night Views, along with Mt. Moiwa and Mt. Hakodate.
You can drive up there, but we recommend the ropeway that runs every 6 - 12 minutes. It will be a marvelous skywalk looking down at Otaru Port, Ishikari Bay, and even Mt. Shokanbetsu and Shakotan Peninsula on a clear day.
On the mountain top, there are five observation platforms with different views, Mt. Tegu Slider for a 400m bobsleigh fun, Tenguyama Shrine, a ski information center, etc.
In winter, Mt. Tengu will be a fascinating place to ski, looking down at the grand scenery.
