Takeo City Library is a new type of library featuring a café and the Tsutaya bookstore where visitors can purchase books, magazines, and other interesting items. Making good use of wood, the structure has a warm and cozy feeling in its expansive reading room. An enormous number of books fill the impressive bookshelves built from the floor to the ceiling.
Today, Takeo City Library and Historical Museum has also turned into one of the major tourist attractions in Takao City. Both local citizens and tourists are taking advantage of this library and spending time in their own way, including searching through guidebooks for travel information about Takao and relaxing with a nice cup of coffee. The library organizes various events such as lectures, workshops, and a market day.
Its Historical Museum stores over 16,000 works donated by the Nabeshima Clan who used to control Takao and regularly holds special exhibitions regarding local history. The adjacent Children's Library with around 20,000 books also arranges family gathering opportunities including reading events which provide many fun activities for children and adults rather than only searching for books.
