Hoheikyo Dam is built upstream of Toyohira River in the Minami District of Sapporo City. It controls the flow of the Toyohira River, of course, supplies water to the Sapporo City, and the surrounding area is renowned as a tourist spot for the fall foliage.
When fall comes, residents of Sapporo and many tourists flock here. The dam releases water for tourists to see. Each year from June to October, water is released between 9am and 4pm. You can enjoy watching the dynamic view and the surrounding mountains.
Around the dam, trails are laid out and there is a waterfall called Kudan-no-taki in the neighborhood. There are an observation spot and a restaurant, Dammier, to let you rest and take in the splendid scenery. At this popular restaurant, you can enjoy BBQ and outdoor views. From the entrance to the dam, a hybrid electric bus gives you a ride to protect nature. It is equipped with a lift and you can get on the bus while in a wheelchair.
