Established in 1609, the "Hirado Dutch Trading Post" served as a vital trading center in East Asia for about 30 years, bustling with international exchanges. It once stood as a symbol of trade in Nagasaki. However, under the prohibition orders of the Edo period, all its buildings were demolished, and for many years, only the site remained.

Four centuries later, recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the site, efforts were made to restore the building and develop the environment around it. Today, the warehouse, distinguished by its pure white walls and tile roofing reminiscent of the old days, has been faithfully reconstructed. Within the building is the "Matsura Historical Museum."

The museum exhibits a range of artifacts, including paintings and books. Especially captivating are the exhibits related to trade, such as the Nanban lacquerware, a primary export product to Europe. Visitors should also look out for periodic special exhibitions and check out the museum shop for exclusive items.
