Located in Arashiyama Park at the confluence of the Ishikari River and the Osarappe River, the Northern Wild Plants Garden is one of the most extensive northern wild plants gardens in Japan, with approximately 650 plant species growing in this area. It is a forest composed mainly of broad-leaved trees, which is rare in the suburbs of a city and has retained its primitive appearance.

The park has a total of 5.2 km of walking trails, divided into 30-minute, 1-hour, and 2-hour courses. Information boards and rest areas are placed throughout the trails, making it easy for hiking beginners to explore the park.

The wildflowers, collected mainly from native species, are always a new look at any time of the year, as various flowers bloom each season. Among them, the purple Katakuris bloom here and there in early spring and are very popular. In addition to plants, the park is also home to many wild birds and adorable small animals such as EZO squirrels, and if you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of them.
