"Sabo Kyuchayatei" is a repair and preservation of a store and residence of a marine merchant from the late Meiji period, designated as a traditional building, as well as a reproduction of a Taisho-romantic salon where foreigners of the time were said to have stopped by to seek peace of mind. It opened in 1992, taking over the name of the former teahouse pavilion, which was operated for a limited time by the owner at the time of the Seikan Expo.
The interior of the restaurant has a retro feel of 100 years of history and a modern atmosphere. Almost all of the furniture uses different designs, and the unique furniture also plays a role in creating an exotic atmosphere. The tableware is also carefully collected to match the atmosphere of the restaurant.
When it first opened, the menu consisted mainly of Japanese tea and Japanese sweets, but since then it has added a wide variety of sweet items such as anmitsu and oshiruko (sweet red bean paste) to its menu, including the now popular Mirukisoft. The coffee is made with three-year-aged coffee, which they refrain from offering until they are satisfied with the quality. The aroma and richness of the aged coffee, which can only be enjoyed here, are exquisite.
