Last update :

The Tsunoshima Bridge opened in 2000. The bridge connects the mainland side of Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with the remote island of Tsunoshima. With a total length of 1,780 meters, it is one of the longest bridges over a remote island in Japan that can be crossed for free.

Located in the Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park, the bridge was designed with the pier height kept at 18m in consideration of the surrounding landscape. The bridge is close to the sea surface, allowing visitors to enjoy driving while feeling close to the sea. The bridge does not connect the mainland and Tsunoshima in a straight line, but instead bypasses Hato Island, which is located halfway between the two islands, and its gently curving shape is extremely beautiful. The road has been used as a location for various car commercials, movies, and TV dramas, and has become well known as a scenic spot.

There are several beaches on the mainland side and Tsunoshima, and it is especially popular in the summer when the sea shines in cobalt blue and looks great in photographs. The park and observatory in front of the bridge are perfect photo spots, and attract many bathers and tourists.
