There's a fantastic scenic spot just a short walk from the station!
After exploring the clear streams and waterfalls, it's great that you can enjoy local restaurants and souvenir shops around the parking lot.
At Senya, a local eatery, I recommend the yuba set meal and the hearty tempura rice bowl.

Ryuokyo Gorge
A powerful, majestic beauty of extraordinary rocks, boulders and a pure stream.
A nearly 3km-long gorge stands between the small hot spring resorts along a river, Kawaji Onsen and Kinugawa Onsen. 22 million years ago, a volcano in the ocean belched up rocks which got gradually eroded by Kinugawa River into the current shape. As the name suggests, the powerful scenery looks like a dragon twisting around, impressing visitors.
Roughly 3km-long Ryuokyo Gorge has three areas - Hakuryu Ravine accented with white rhyolite, Seiryu Ravine with green tuff forming various extraordinary rocks, and Shiryukyo Ravine made of purplish andesite. Along the trail, Nijimi Falls where you can see a bright rainbow on a sunny day, Kame-ana (Turtle Hole) in a peculiar shape, and other scenic places dot. Imposing boulders and monumental rocks, the clear river and nature’s dynamic artwork is available right after you step out of the train station.
Fresh greens in summer, fall foliage, snowscape in winter - whichever season you visit, you will discover a new charm.

I visited Ryuokyo Gorge this time. It's not very well-known in Taiwan, but after walking through it, I felt it was totally worth the trip. Highly recommended!
