Located on the southern foothills of Mount Akagi, Akagi Nanmen Senbonzakura is a breathtaking cherry-blossom avenue where around 1,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees bloom along both sides of a roughly 1.3-kilometer road, together with the adjacent park.

In 1990, it was selected as one of the Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association, and is widely regarded as one of the country’s most iconic sakura destinations. The "Akagi Nanmen Senbonzakura Festival" is usually held from Late March to mid-April. The festival is crowded with approximately 100,000 visitors.

The highlight is the spectacular tunnel of cherry trees, many over 60 years old. The archway formed by soft pink blossoms is so beautiful it quite literally takes your breath away. This is a must-see in combination with the adjacent "Miyagi Senbonzakura no Mori" (forest of 1,000 cherry trees).
