Perched on the 4th station of Sakurajima’s North Peak at 373 meters high, Yunohira Observatory is the highest point on the island accessible to the public.

The highlight here is the breathtaking 360° panoramic view. Up close, you can see Sakurajima’s rugged volcanic slopes, that occasionally seeps with billowing smoke on gorgeously dramatic days. Peer down to find the calm Kinko Bay and the cityscape of Kagoshima, plus views as far out as the Kirishima mountain range and Mount Kaimon, two of Kagoshima’s iconic peaks on clear days. See into all the buzz why fans swing by for sunset and night views, and see as the burning red sun slips into the sea and twinkling cityscape after dark.

Hidden within the stone walls of the observatory’s base are seven heart-shaped stones-try spotting them all during your visit. The site is also easily accessible via the Sakurajima Island View sightseeing bus, which departs from and returns to Sakurajima Port, making it a convenient stop on a tour around the island.
