Yokote Kan
A long-running ryokan built entirely of hinoki cypress, with the charm of Japan’s Taisho era.
Built in 1920, the main building is a grand four-story structure made entirely of hinoki cypress—an iconic landmark of Ikaho Onsen. Guest rooms in the “Main Building West Wing” follow the traditional shoin-zukuri style, with thoughtful design touches that vary by room. In contrast, the “Main Building East Wing” was renovated in 2010, blending Japanese elements like pillars, ceilings, shoji screens, and ranma transoms with a modern feel.
There are two large public baths—“Gekko no Yu” and “Orizuru no Yu”—with alternating access for men and women. Both feature free-flowing hot spring water from Ikaho’s famed “Kogane no Yu” (Golden Bath). For more privacy, you can also use three private family baths at no extra charge, plus one paid private family bath (advance reservation required).
Dinner is a “Yama Kaiseki” course featuring Gunma’s local ingredients, seasonal flavors, and vegetables delivered directly from local farms. Another plus: you can dine in your room or in a private dining room, so you can relax and enjoy your meal at your own pace.
