Chigogafuchi is a coveted destination set on the southwestern side of Enoshima, a marine plateau formed by the earth rising after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The name "Chigogafuchi" is derived from the tragic tale of a chigo (apprentice monk) named Shiragiku, who was training at Soushouin, a temple affiliated with Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in Kamakura. According to legend, Shiragiku visited Enoshima on a pilgrimage and was pursued by the affections of Jikyu, a high priest from Kenchoji's Kotokuan. Overwhelmed, Shiragiku is said to have thrown himself into the sea at this spot.

Today the plateau sits long eroded by waves alongside the full majesty of the ocean, a breathtaking landscape ranked among one of the "Kanagawa Scenic 50”. Mt. Fuji looks especially spectacular from here on clear days, complete with the spray of crashing waves and craggy landforms for a picture-perfectly mesmerizing scene.

Anglers and fishing fanatics especially known and love Chigogafuchi as a prime spot for shore fishing spot for sea bass, yellowtail, skipjack and black porgy, depending on the season. Both scenic and perfect for a number of activities, swing by to join the savvy lot who love this oceanside escape.
