Mikasa Park

Located right next to the U.S. Navy Base in Yokosuka and facing Yokosuka Shinko, Mikasa Park is selected as one of the "Top 100 City Parks in Japan." Within the park, there are monuments such as a song monument playing the "Yokosuka" suite at regular intervals and a monument with the sound of rippling waves.

At the central plaza, the naval battleship "Mikasa," which played a significant role in the Battle of the Sea of Japan and contributed to the victory in the Russo-Japanese War, is preserved and open to the public as a memorial ship. Inside, various maritime-related materials are exhibited, and you can tour the inside of the ship (for a fee). Together with the statue of Heihachiro Togo, the commander of the Combined Fleet, it's a popular spot for photography.

From the gently sloping grassy plaza, you can view Sarushima, an uninhabited island popular as a leisure spot, and on clear days, even the Boso Peninsula is visible. Ferries to Sarushima depart from a terminal near the park. The "Babbling Path" lined with Oshima cherry trees, which bloom from late March to early April, and the unique steam locomotive-shaped water tank that constantly holds 100 tons of water are also must-sees.
