Rainbow Line Summit Park

Sky-high terraces with sweeping views over the Mikata Five Lakes.

Last update :

Colors shift across the water at Mikata Five Lakes (Mikatagoko), a nationally designated scenic spot known as the Five-Colored Lakes for the different hues of its five connected lakes. The park sits along the 11.24 km Rainbow Line, a refreshing drive where those views start right from the car window.

From Parking Lot No. 1, the chairlift or cable car takes you up to a wide-open summit park with five distinct scenic-view terraces. Soak in the footbath, stretch out on a sofa, or settle in at a café—however you do it, the panoramic vistas of the Mikata Five Lakes really open up from the top. There’s also an indoor facility, so you can still enjoy your visit even if it rains—another nice bonus.

At the park’s three cafés, you can dine in, and every item on the menu is also available for takeout. Pick your favorite drink or sweets such as an original parfait, then enjoy them wherever you like while taking in the view. The beautiful, miniature-garden-like scenery spread out below soothes both mind and body.
