Located on Karasuma Peninsula along the southeastern shore of Lake Biwa, the Kusatsu City Aquatic Botanical Garden Mizunomori is a serene garden designed around the theme of “Plants and People, Water and People.” Visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers throughout the year in a natural setting.

The main attraction is the Lotus Pavilion, a facility dedicated to aquatic plants such as lotus and water lilies. Inside, you’ll find an atrium (greenhouse) showcasing tropical aquatic plants, as well as an aquarium where you can observe aquatic vegetation growing underwater.

The heated atrium displays aquatic plants from Japan and abroad, with a special focus on tropical water lilies, ensuring blooms can be enjoyed year-round. The pavilion also houses a restaurant and a shop, where guests can relax with light meals or tea while viewing the gardens and Hanakage Pond, or purchase souvenirs and related goods.

Other highlights include Hanakage Pond, a water garden combining floral baskets with aquatic plants, and Yama no Komichi (“Mountain Path”), where wild birds and waterfowl can be observed throughout the year.
