Fisherman’s Wharf Shirahama
Enjoy the bounty of the sea with plenty to shop, eat, and do.
A popular spot in Nanki-Shirahama—where pure white sand beaches stretch out and a beautiful coastline continues—run by active fishermen.
With plenty to shop, eat, and play, it’s packed with all three, and the Fish Market (seafood market) in particular is lined with seafood that’s in season at the time. Everything is fresh fish delivered from the “Yuzaki Fishing Port” right in front of you, and some are said to be displayed within 5 minutes of being landed. Beyond the freshness, its port-side affordability is also part of the appeal.
After buying carefully selected fresh fish, fire things up with a barbecue while looking out over Shirahama’s sea, or savor local favorites like kue (longtooth grouper), bonito, and tuna at the restaurant.
There’s also a wide range of activities, with many visitors coming from outside the prefecture. Options include hands-on sea fishing with support from fishermen, fishing boat cruises to enjoy nearby scenic spots and views from the water, and diving where all kinds of marine life welcome you—every ocean-based experience on these calm seas is a fun one.
