Michi-no-Eki Yufuin

Located at the gateway to Yufuin-one of Japan’s leading summer resorts known for its hot springs and natural beauty-Michi-no-Eki Yufuin is a popular stop for tourists using it as a base for exploring the area.

The on-site restaurant Gakuan is beloved by locals, serving Oita’s soul foods such as toriten (chicken tempura) and gobo-ten udon (udon topped with burdock root tempura). Dishes made with the highly prized Oita Wagyu are also a must-try.

In the marketplace, visitors will find not only classic souvenirs but also local specialties such as fresh strawberries, processed goods made from the rare fruit pawpaw, and farm-fresh vegetables grown by local farmers. The hugely popular Komatsuya Ohagi (sweet rice cakes) are sold only on weekends and holidays, and they often sell out quickly-so it’s best to arrive early if you want to grab one.
