Founded in 1952 by Giuseppe Donnaloia, an Italian native, DONNALOIA is renowned as the oldest authentic Italian ristorante in Kobe, located in the historic Foreign Settlement area of Motomachi. Since its opening, it has consistently offered genuine, unpretentious Italian cuisine. Initially a favored social gathering spot among Kobe’s international residents, the restaurant later gained popularity among Japanese celebrities and discerning gourmets.
The current chef-owner, Motoshi Watanabe, the restaurant's second-generation proprietor, faithfully preserves traditional recipes while passionately exploring new and seasonal ingredients. His cuisine highlights the vibrant qualities of fresh ingredients through boldly simple preparations. The interior, elegantly adorned with deep crimson tablecloths, provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
At lunchtime, the chef’s recommended course (3,500yen) includes appetizers, pasta, a main dish, dessert, bread, salad, and coffee. A weekday-exclusive Ladies’ Lunch is also available at 1,800yen, offering excellent value. Dinner service includes both set courses and an à la carte menu.
