Last update :

Located within the Hyōnosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park, the Tajima Highlands Botanical Garden is situated in Torokawadaira, a site recognized as one of the top 100 scenic spots in Hyogo Prefecture. The garden was established in 1997 with the goal of protecting the area's natural treasures, including the "Sen-nen-sui" spring, which produces 5,000 tons of water daily, and the over 1,000-year-old "Wachi-no-ō-katsura" tree.

The garden’s unique location marks the northern limit for plants from southern regions, the southern limit for northern plants, the lower boundary for alpine plants, and the upper limit for lowland species. This creates a special environment where approximately 2,000 species of native plants thrive within its 17-hectare expanse. The presence of ponds and wetlands also provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including birds, insects, and dragonflies.

Visitors can enjoy a meal at the on-site restaurant, which offers a barbecue featuring Tajima beef, as well as a treehouse restaurant. There’s also the option to order a garden lunch box for takeout, which can be enjoyed while surrounded by the garden’s natural beauty. Be sure to try the local Tajima beef specialties.

During winter, the garden transforms with the introduction of a "kamakura restaurant" set inside snow huts, and guests can also take part in snowshoeing experiences.
