Shikishima Park Kadokura Techno Rose Garden
Best viewed in spring and fall! A stunning garden filled with the beauty and fragrance of 600 varieties of roses.
Opened in 1971 in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture—where the rose is designated as the city’s official flower—Shikishima Park Kadokura Techno Rose Garden is home to around 600 varieties and 7,000 rose bushes. The best time to visit is during its two peak seasons in spring and fall. The garden features distinct areas such as the Old Rose section, which evokes a sense of history, and the Modern Rose section, arranged by country of origin—each offering its own unique charm for rose lovers to enjoy.
One of the highlights is Maebashi’s original rose, Akagi no Kagayaki, known for its stunning color transformation from yellow to orange to red as it blooms. Also worth exploring is the “Fragrant Garden,” a special area added in 2019, where seven different types of aromatic roses are planted, allowing visitors to discover their favorite scent.
Each year, the Rose Festival is held in mid-May to early June and again in late October to mid-November, featuring concerts, rose seedling and gift sales, and more. In the evening, the garden is illuminated, creating a magical, dreamlike rose-filled atmosphere.
