Senga Falls

Located deep within Shosenkyo Gorge — one of Yamanashi’s most celebrated scenic spots—Senga Falls is a powerful waterfall that has earned a place among Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls. Its name is inspired by the Chinese moon goddess Chang’e (pronounced “Jōga” in Japanese), symbolizing a “moon-like beautiful waterfall.”

Formed by tectonic shifts, the falls plunge roughly 30 meters from a dramatic fault line. As the water crashes down, carving through sheer rock walls, it creates a thunderous roar and a cloud of mist that adds to the spectacle.

Autumn is the best time to visit, when the vibrant red and gold foliage creates a stunning contrast against the cascade. But each season offers a unique view—spring’s fresh greenery, winter’s snowy stillness, and from spring to autumn, magical evening light-up events transform the falls into an enchanting sight.

Just a 5-minute walk from the nearby parking lot along a pleasant walking path, Senga Falls is the perfect spot to refresh your mind and body in a forest rich with negative ions.
