The Louvre Sculpture Museum in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, is the official sister museum of Paris’s world-famous Louvre Museum. It’s the only museum in Japan where you can view nearly 1,300 sculptures created by the Louvre Museum’s technical team, made by taking molds from the originals.

The exhibits faithfully recreate even the texture and fine scratches. One of the biggest highlights is being able to see historic masterpieces like the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo up close. The weight and texture of the sculptures—things photos can’t fully convey—along with their carefully crafted beauty down to the smallest details, are sure to resonate more deeply when you see them in person.

Photography is allowed inside the museum, so you can take plenty of photos to remember your visit. Some works from museums such as the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are also on display through the French Museums Association.

A rare experience awaits, where you can connect with world art without leaving Japan.
