Hyotan Onsen
Soak, sip, and feel the benefits of the steam-your relaxing hot spring time in the mist.
Since opening in 1922, this day-use hot spring facility has continued to protect its 100% free-flowing (kakenagashi) hot spring water straight from the source.
The spring source temperature is Approx. 100°C. By running this very hot water through a bamboo tower and using only natural forces to cool it to 45–50°C, they deliver fresh, just-drawn hot spring water with absolutely no impurities, exactly as it is. The water type is a mildly acidic sodium chloride spring. It’s said to be effective for nerve pain and muscle pain, and even during recovery after illness!
To enjoy every last bit of the spring’s minerals, it’s recommended not only to soak, but also to try “onsen drinking” (drinking the hot spring water) and taste “jigoku-mushi” dishes, where ingredients are steam-cooked using hot spring steam.
Also popular are the “steam sauna,” where you inhale minerals in the steam through your nose and mouth to circulate through your body, and the “sand bath,” where sand is steamed by vapor rising from the high-temperature spring source.
Soak, sip, and feel the benefits of the steam—experience this famous healing hot spring in a variety of ways.
