Cape Nagasakibana

The southernmost cape of the Satsuma Peninsula, offering scenic views of nearby islands, mountains, and stunning sunsets.

Last update :

Jutting out from the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, Cape Nagasakibana is steeped in legend as the place where Urashima Taro is said to have set off for the Dragon Palace, earning it the nickname "Ryugu-bana." In summer, it becomes a nesting site for sea turtles, and nearby you’ll find Ryugu Shrine, dedicated to Princess Otohime.

A walking path allows visitors to reach the tip of the cape, offering breathtaking views. To the west, across the sea, stands Mt. Kaimon—nicknamed "Satsuma Fuji" for its graceful cone shape—widely regarded as most picturesque when seen from this vantage point. On clear days, you can also spot Yakushima, Takeshima, and Satsuma Iojima on the southern horizon.

The Satsuma Nagasakibana Lighthouse at the cape was officially designated a “Lover’s Lighthouse” in 2018. Its nearby heart-shaped monument makes it a favorite photo spot for couples. The sunset over the sea, with the lighthouse silhouetted against the glowing sky, is a view not to be missed. Be sure to stop by the souvenir shops just before the cape after your stroll.
