Silo Observatory

Located on a hill on the western shore of Lake Toya, this scenic spot offers breathtaking panoramic views. From the observatory in the central courtyard, visitors can gaze upon Lake Toya and Nakajima Island floating on its blue surface, as well as the surrounding mountains such as Mt. Usu and Showa Shinzan, features shaped by volcanic activity that create a dynamic landscape. It is a popular photo spot, especially renowned for its stunning sunrises and sunsets.

On both sides of the observatory are spacious grassy gardens. The blend of seasonal flowers in spring, colorful foliage in autumn, and the ever-changing garden scenery set against the backdrop of Lake Toya is truly spectacular. In winter, the snow-covered trees on Nakajima and around the lakeshore contrast beautifully with the unfrozen lake, offering a must-see winter view. On-site, there is a rest house with a souvenir shop and café, as well as an EV charging station in the parking lot. Conveniently located on the route from Lake Toya hot spring resort toward Sapporo, it's an ideal stop for a break during a drive.

For those wanting to further enjoy the natural beauty of the Lake Toya area, the popular Sky Cruising experience departs from a nearby heliport, offering a breathtaking aerial tour (closed in winter). In the winter, visitors can also enjoy snow activities like sledding and snow rafting in a designated snow play area.

The most popular souvenir is the shop’s original “Lake Toya Caramel Pudding,” known for its creamy texture. It’s shelf-stable and can be taken home at room temperature—highly recommended as a gift.
