Cape Hedo
The northernmost cape on Okinawa’s main island.
Located within Yanbaru National Park, Cape Hedo marks the northernmost point of Okinawa’s main island. Brandished in the full drama of uplifted coral cliffs, a wild and rugged atmosphere unveils while facing out to the open ocean between the Pacific and East China Sea. The area is well-maintained as Cape Hedo Park, with walking trails and scenic observation decks.
On clear days, you can spot Izena Island, Iheya Island, and even Yoron Island across the horizon. During the era of U.S. occupation, gatherings were held here to express hope for Okinawa’s return to Japan—fires were lit and pointed toward Yoron Island as a symbolic gesture.
In 2019, the Cape Hedo Tourist Information Center “HEAD LINE” opened. The first floor offers tourism information on Kunigami, Ogimi, and Higashi villages. On the second floor, a café serves a wide range of dishes such as loco moco, green curry, and Okinawa soba, all while overlooking the cape’s breathtaking scenery. The drink menu features locally sourced coffee beans that change daily, as well as Okinawan craft beers.
For the ultimate view, head to the rooftop terrace, which offers a panoramic 360-degree look at the surrounding ocean and cliffs—a must-see highlight of your visit.
