Kunigami Forest Park – Stars & Forest Campground
Immerse yourself in the great outdoors of Yanbaru through camping and nature-filled activities!
Kunigami Forest Park – Stars & Forest Campground sits at the gateway to the Yanbaru region, a designated UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, known for its lush landscapes and rich biodiversity. Among the most scenic areas in Yanbaru, Kunigami Village offers visitors a deep connection with Okinawa's pristine nature.
Surrounded by trees like itajii (Castanopsis), ijū, and tabunoki, the expansive park features a 3km forest trail where you can enjoy seasonal flowers, birdwatching, and serene views of Hentona Lake. Don't miss the observation deck, which offers stunning panoramic views of both the sea and the mountains.
In addition to its trails, the park includes a variety of lodging options—campgrounds, bungalows, and even a whimsical treehouse. It’s also home to Okinawa Island’s only observatory, where stargazing sessions are held at night (reservation required).
The park offers a wide range of nature-based activities such as nighttime forest tours, wildlife monitoring experiences, and stargazing programs, giving visitors the chance to truly connect with the unique ecosystem of Yanbaru Forest. Be sure to also check out the Yanbaru Forest Toy Museum, where children and adults alike can explore and play with wooden toys inspired by the forest.
