Last update :

Located in Kiyota Ward, Sapporo, Hiraoka Park is known as Hokkaido’s top plum blossom spot, with Approx. 1,200 plum trees in full bloom each spring. The plum grove in the park’s West Area spans 6.5 hectares, one of the largest in Sapporo, with Approx. 60% white plums and Approx. 40% red plums. Blooming typically runs from early May to late May, but detailed bloom updates are posted regularly on the official website, so check before your visit.

The “Hiraoka Plum Festival,” held every year from late April to early May to coincide with the bloom, features plum-themed treats such as plum soft-serve ice cream and plum grove soba. There’s also a grassy lawn area, where you can lay out a picnic sheet and enjoy a relaxed flower-viewing picnic.

To reach the West Area where the plum grove is located, take a bus for Approx. 15 minutes from Shin-Sapporo Station or Oyachi Station on the Subway Tozai Line. Parking is available, but it gets crowded during peak bloom, so public transportation is a better choice.
