One of the “Eight Scenic Views of Muroran,” this scenic spot features cliffs around 100 meters high and striking rock formations stretching for 580 meters. The sharply rising cliffs are covered like a carpet with kuma bamboo grass, while large and small rugged rock formations tower along the coastline. White waves crashing against the rocks, the crystal-clear blue sea, and on clear days, a sweeping panorama reaching all the way to the horizon create a dramatic landscape that captivates visitors.

The area is also beautiful at night, when the lights of Muroran City glowing in the distance and the silhouettes of the sheer cliffs create a dreamlike view. From fall to winter, squid fishing is active off the coast of Muroran, and you may also catch sight of the fishing lights used by boats to attract squid.

The place name “Tokkarisho” comes from the Ainu words “Tokar-Isho,” meaning “seal rock,” and refers to the many seals that once lived along this coast. Nearby is Cape Chikyu, another of the Eight Scenic Views of Muroran, so visiting both is recommended.
