Hakucho Bridge Observatory

Stretching 1,380 meters in length with main towers rising 138 meters high, Hakucho Bridge is the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan. Known locally as a “lucky bridge” that brings couples together, it becomes even more enchanting after sunset when LED lights illuminate its silhouette. The glowing bridge floating above the dark sea is breathtaking, earning it a place on the list of the Japan Nightscape Heritage.

The Hakucho Bridge Observatory offers the closest and most striking view of the bridge. From this vantage point, you can admire the illuminated structure at nearly the same eye level. Although there are several viewpoints around the city, this one is perfect for appreciating the sheer scale of the bridge up close.

From the observatory, you can also enjoy panoramic views of Muroran Port and the surrounding factories that form a ring of lights around the bay. As one of Hokkaido’s major industrial cities, Muroran boasts a dramatic factory nightscape. On clear winter nights, the crisp air sharpens the contours of the lights, making the spot especially popular among night-view enthusiasts and photographers.
