Nestled along the Amanohashidate Canal in Miyazu City, Kyoto, Monjusou is a resort ryokan that looks out over Amanohashidate, one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views. Every guest room is designed to frame the pine-lined sandbar and the canal beyond, allowing guests to enjoy the iconic landscape without leaving their room.

Following a full renovation, the inn has been reborn as a soothing retreat that blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort. The bathing facilities are especially well appointed, featuring a large public bath with a stone open-air bath, a Finnish-style sauna with löyly, and a nano-steam mist sauna. Some special rooms also come with private open-air baths offering panoramic views.

Meals showcase kaiseki cuisine prepared with seasonal local ingredients. Surrounded by sea and mountains, Amanohashidate yields an abundance of regional delicacies, expertly prepared by skilled chefs. Seasonal highlights include spiny lobster and cherry sea bream in spring, rock oysters in early summer, conger eel in summer, matsutake mushrooms in autumn, and snow crab and winter yellowtail in winter. Breakfast is equally popular, featuring local specialties such as heshiko (fermented mackerel), dried stone flounder, and Tango rice-an inviting way to start the day with the flavors of the region.
