Operated by Toyama Chihō Railway, the Toyama City Tram is a convenient streetcar system for getting around the city, connecting central Toyama with Toyama Station and the Iwasehama area. Affectionately known locally as the “Shiden,” it is widely used for commuting to work or school, shopping, and sightseeing.

The network consists of six routes extending from Toyama Station toward Iwasehama, Toyama University, and Minami-Toyama Station. Services run frequently-generally every 5 to 15 minutes depending on the time of day-making it an efficient way to travel within the city. Fares are a flat rate across all lines, with payment accepted in cash as well as via IC cards.

A variety of rolling stock is in operation, ranging from modern, ultra-low-floor cars such as the 9000 Series (Centram) to classic, retro-style trams typified by the 7000 Series. One of the pleasures of riding the city tram is encountering a different style of car each time.
