The observation deck on the second floor is a must! You get a full panoramic view of the entire Funaya bay area.

Placing sculptures out in nature really brings art and the outdoors together. Whether you're into photography, just want a stroll, or love art, you'll be totally satisfied here.

In the morning, the stalls are all run by local residents selling local farm products. If you can speak Japanese, you'll really feel the warmth and friendliness of the people here.

It's super peaceful here. From the northern lakeside at the Kura Pass observatory, you can see Mount Fuji from the same angle as on the 1,000 yen bill.

The main keep was under renovation when I visited, so I couldn't go inside. But the scenery outside was still really worth seeing.

Both the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the Onaruto Bridge are feats of engineering. You can actually walk under the Onaruto Bridge, and it's also a fantastic spot to see the whirlpools.

The world's longest suspension bridge! Standing underneath and seeing the whole structure is truly impressive.

This is a world-class heritage site and the main shrine among over 3,000 Kumano shrines across Japan. Together with Seiganto-ji Temple and Nachi Waterfall nearby, it forms a spiritual center.

When Kamikochi just opened, you could still see patches of snow along the riverbed. Sometimes, wild mother monkeys would come out with their babies to look for food. It's such a natural and untouched environment.

Looking down from the suspension bridge, the height above the riverbed is really impressive. When there are a lot of people, the bridge shakes and feels unstable, which is pretty scary. I don't think I'd want to come back a second time.

If it's not cherry blossom season, I don't think many people would visit this park.
